The State of Obesity Care in Canada

From our partner: Obesity Canada · October 6, 2026

Obesity Canada’s new report looks at whether the care people receive matches what we now know about obesity. It doesn’t yet.

The report names five gaps. Obesity isn’t measured in a useful way. Having a family doctor doesn’t mean getting obesity care. Access to surgery depends on where you live. More people use medication, but coverage hasn’t kept up. And psychological care is often left out.

Advocates outside Canada will recognize many of these.
